LAWRENCE N. HANSEN
December 23, 1940 -- November 15, 2010
Larry Hansen, vice president of the Joyce Foundation, died Nov. 15, 2010, after a long battle with cancer.
Larry was instrumental in the creation of the CHANGE Illinois! coalition and was a lifelong advocate for political reform, most recently a mentor and supporter of advocates throughout the Midwest.
Shortly after the arrest of former Gov. Rod Blagojevich in December 2008, Larry worked the phones like a campaign veteran and convened a meeting of several business and civic leaders from both political parties -- all of them concerned about the culture of corruption in Illinois government. Larry penned the first draft of a "statement of principles" for what would soon become the CHANGE Illinois! coalition.
Larry was most comfortable in the background but was always there to give us advice and direction. He has been with us every step of the way. We will miss him.
