CHANGE IL calls on lawmakers to finally put an end to prison gerrymandering

Today, CHANGE Illinois testified at an Illinois General Assembly subject matter hearing on prison reform. At the hearing, Madeleine Doubek, executive director of CHANGE Illinois, called on lawmakers to stop prison gerrymandering ahead of the 2021 remap. Doubek highlighted flaws in the current redistricting process due to prison gerrymandering, “people who are incarcerated at the time of the census are counted in the prisons where they are being held rather than in their home communities. This robs them and their neighborhoods of their rightful representation and is unjust.”
